St Jerome on a laptop: Intricate mosaic honours Bible translator for the digital age to be displayed at St Michael’s Wombwell.

‘Little Bits of God’ tells the story of the Bible using the smalti mosaic technique developed in ancient Byzantium. A major artwork which was created in 2020 to mark the astonishing achievement of St Jerome’s translation of the Bible will be at St Michaels Church in Wombwell.

St. Jerome (c.AD 347–420) translated the Bible from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into Latin, the first scholar to do so systematically, taking over 15 years to complete.

The mosaic has been on tour in Cathedrals and Universities around the UK since 2020, Wombwell will be its final location before leaving on 30th September for Westminster where it will remain as a permanent exhibit.

This stunning mosaic artwork will be coming to our parish, to be situated in the Lady Chapel of St Michael’s Church, it will open to general public admission – 10.30am till 12.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and evening sessions – 6pm till 8pm Wednesday and Friday.

Group bookings can be made outside of these times.
